JST friends Gordon Vickers and Bev Chapple have prepared another Dartmoor letterbox walk for us this year we receive the money made from selling the clue sheets.
For those of you who don’t know what letterboxing is, it’s like a Treasure Hunt, but for adults as well as children!
Simply a letterbox is a small box hidden in a particular place on Dartmoor, for which clues to its location are provided (either in the annual Catalogue, or on a Charity walk clue sheet), which enables people to prove they've been there by signing the visitors book, and stamping their own book, with a copy of the stamp found therein. It is also a very entertaining way to explorer regions of Dartmoor, and is a pastime that can be enjoyed by absolutely anyone. It is the searching for the boxes, and the walking in fantastic scenery that appeals to people, as well as the sense of achievement from finding that elusive box.
A letterbox contains typically a rubber stamp to mark your own book with, and a notebook to leave a message or, (as most people do nowadays), stamp with your own rubber stamp.
Clue sheets will be on sale at the meeting, from Alan Puddicombe, 27 Longlands Drive, Heybrook Bay, Plymouth PL9 0BL, or Gordon Vickers, 39 Buena Vista Drive, Plymouth, PL6 7JF, from that date. The clue sheets are priced at £2.50, with all the proceeds going to JST.
Happy hunting!
