03/05/2010 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 03/05/2010

Well a lot has happened in the past few days. We came into Jersey on Friday morning having watched the osprey fly off before we got here. We later heard that he had landed on a fishing boat and taken into port and to a vet at the Gerald Durrell animal hospital. The voyage crew were then busy with a debrief from the captain and then after lunch stowing the sails. The voyage crew went off for a meal ashore.

Saturday morning came and saw a frantic last minute packing by some people before Happy Hour. At 08.00 we had to get the ship to move it further astern onto the pontoon and into our position for the Jersey Boat show. We could not do this when we arrived as the low tide would have been to shallow for us. Voyage crew then left to make their way ashore and home. At the same time a group of volunteers from the Jersey branch were waiting to come on board and start getting into their positions ready to show people around during open ship. After closing to the public at 16.00 we were then invaded by 80 girl guides.

Sunday was cooler again but very busy with lots of people looking around the ship and being sold various souvenirs by Jules in the lower mess. Six voyage crew stayed on as they were sailing on the next voyage.

Monday morning, breakfast Happy hour, open ship until lunchtime. Then the voyage crew started to arrive. Once on board the safety briefings began and then a delicious dinner cooked by Dave. Shortly we will be doing the emergency evacuation drill, then shore time before harbour watches.
