Today we left Brugge heading for the Blackwater Estuary. There was a gentle two hour trip down to the lock at Zeebrugge and we shared the lock with a barge and passed the Queen Victoria cruise ship. When we got out to sea it was blowing a gale force 7(very windy) and we set sails as soon we crossed the traffic lane.We set 7 sails which was the most we have set all voyage, and some of the crew went aloft to loosen the buntlines, which were stopping the sail from fully unfurling .
We then had our watch with Marianne leading the watch as part of her youth leadership scheme. The weather was nice for a change and there were great views from the bridge of the sails in the sun.
At around 9PM we had to take in all the sails as the wind had reached gale force 9. A lot of the crew got very wet as it was quite rough and was more dramatic as it was at night and not all the crew were available to help.
We then went to bed ready to be woken up at 3.30am for our watch.
