05/04/2010 - Tenacious

Dated: 05/04/2010

Day 4 of our voyage and we took a day off sailing to visit either Florence or Pisa. Public transport was excellent, assistance available for the 8 wheelchairs - they even provided us with our own bus at a moment's notice to take us to the train station. The Italians then provided a lift to get the wheelchair users onto the train! Florence was beautiful with plenty of fine architecture, shops, good looking Italians and restaurants! ...not forgetting the fantastic ice cream. The rain arrived in the afternoon but didn't spoil the day. In the evening a damp group of jolly sailors returned to the ship, many arriving in a bus which the driver kindly agreed to bring right to the port. We are now on day 5 and heading for Corsica on a fine sunny day and hoping to arrive late this evening. The plan is to drop the anchor and go ashore in the morning. Sailing conditions today were excellent. Plenty of wind and sunshine. Victoria went out on the bowsprit in her wheelchair in a force 5 and enjoyed every minute. Roast veal and chocolate "moose" for dinner - life doesn't get much better.

Two of our cadets went up the mast under way this afternoon and even went out on the yards. No dolphins yet but hoping to see some before sunset, AS watch
