05/09/2009 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 05/09/2009

On watch we managed to see the sunrise which was beautiful, we also went round the roundabout(yes at sea!) in the north sea where two shipping lanes merge and started to head towards the Blackwater Estuary.

We passed the new wind farm off Clacton and anchored out side Bradwell nuclear power station.

The permanent crew did an emergency drill with the DOTI(Department of Trade and Industry)boat which is smaller to a rib.

We then went aloft to stow the sails as high wind was forecast again and we had 10 crew up the mast and it was very windy.

For supper we had a three course meal as it was one of the last times we would all be eating together. We also had a special speech as Nick had been on 54 voyages with the JST and his nautical miles added up to twice around the world.

After supper we all met in the bar and listened to Fred’s Fishy Tales, which were very funny. We then had a few more drinks and went to bed, ready to leave in the morning for Harwich.
