Yesterday afternoon the wind increased to force 7 with stronger gusts, and settled down at NW by W. We altered course to gain ground to the North of our course line, sailing full-and-by with the wind one point forward of the beam. The lumpy sea and swell gave most of us a fitful night's sleep, and our galley staff a hard time. Today's weather has been sunny most of the time with passing showers and a fine display of clouds, with those on deck keeping an eye out for water sweeping along the scuppers. We are making around 6 knots and have less than 400 miles to reach Cobh.
