07/02/2009 - Tenacious

Dated: 07/02/2009

Thursday morning we raised the anchor and awaited direction from the pilot. Aft starboard watch at the helm for the short journey into Santa Cruz port. Once Tenacious was safely moored alongside Captain John released the voyage crew for shore leave.A small group hired a car and headed off to Mount Teide where they encountered a snow storm. Others enjoyed the shops and café bar.

Watch leader Bob and Doctor Suzy climbed to the top of the mast, well done.

A lively evening in the bar and recorder recital in the upper mess kept the spirits up as the weather had turned rather wet.

Friday morning- Quite a few sleepy heads over breakfast as many sleeping on the starboard side had found the noise of butting against the fenders disturbed sleep.

Poor Matt slept on the cushions in the lower mess.

Scrumptious breakfast enjoyed by all prior to the assisted climbs up the fore mast.Major achievements for some of the young and not so young sailors- with plenty of cheering and support from below. Particularly well done to Matt, Charlene, Laura and David.

Further celebrations at ‘Smoko’ for Lynn celebrating her 39th birthday.

Once again the pilot joined us on board to assist our departure from Santa Cruz.

Alex was acting watch leader for some of the day as part of his Leadership at Sea Award and Gold Duke of Edinburgh award.
