After leaving La Gomera with the help of the local pilot, we left the harbour to find less wind than we expected, which was an ideal opportunity to take the wheelchair voyage crew up onto the bow sprit. We, the Aft Port watch, started our main watch at 20.00, to find the wind had picked up, so we were in for a busy evening sail setting and adjusting. We were all thrilled when our Anthony in his wheelchair steered the ship with a joystick, as he does not have good mobility - his face was a picture - a delight for all to see. This voyage is his 21st birthday present. The wind reached force 8 by the middle of our watch, and we were healing at quite an angle,so balancing became the major challenge. I think we all slept well after that. Today we are heading for Megane in Gran Canaria, and the highight of the morning was the sight of porpoises, although the debate rambles on as to whether they were dolphins!
