07/10/2009 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 07/10/2009

We made port in Boulogne last night so were greeted by the smells of a main fishing port on waking this morning, great!

The divers went down this morning in an attempt to sort out the port engine, but no luck there. Whilst this was going on most of us managed to have a wander off ship into Boulogne as this is our last place at port before the end of our sail. Surprise surprise it rained. A lot!

We got ready to leave at 16:00 this afternoon, fully waterproofed up, half the mooring lines off only to be informed there would be a 30 minute delay with the pilot, d’oh!

Having left the shelter of port we embraced the slightly less friendly waters of the open seas heading for the Dover straits.

Dinner was a bit of a sorry affair with a few green looking crew members, but hey more for everyone else! Just been briefed by the captain to find we are heading against the wind and very soon will be against tide too. With only one fully working engine we may be finding ourselves moving backwards.

On that note we’re going to say cheerio as we’re off on watch and the prospect of staring at Dover for the next four hours!
