With no room in Boulogne we stayed in the Channel. Much to our delight a large pod of dolphins entertained us, leaping for the cameras from the wave tops and under the bowsprit.
Setting more sails in strengthening winds we began to be aware that we were entering the busiest shipping lanes in the world, with good views of the French shoreline and their promenade lighting.
Midnight saw volunteers assisting the on-going watch take in all sails. Next day we passed the Martello Towers as we entered the Estuary and concentrated carefully upon navigation directions. Shortly after Southend Pier we anchored and set about testing the emergency steering gear.
