09/04/2009 - Tenacious

Dated: 09/04/2009

Well, a strange day. Having been 'shadowed' by the Irish Navy for a good part of the day, we arrived at Cobh in the middle of the night, and anchored. Unfortunately after so long unused, the anchor didn't set well, and we had to weigh anchor and reset it. Poor Plummet was on anchor cable duty down below, and had 5 shackles of cable to stow! That's an awful lot!

We had had great hopes of a day out in Cobh, but these were confounded by the weather - strong wind (wrong and strong) and rain - it was miserable and not conducive to mooring, so we sat out in the anchorage until 6pm, when suddenly the wind just disappeared, and we made a very dignified entry to the harbour, and our mooring, accompanied by enthusiastic cheering from ashore, where everybody had started celebrating the holiday early. Just before this, we had held one of Tenacious' famous quizzes in the lower mess - it was won by Rogers watch (FS), and they won an Easter egg and a large bottle of ginger beer - apparently there is to be an introduction to dark and stormys for the uninitiated when we get to Cowes.

Anyway mooring was smooth and uneventful, other than Maureen (BM) making a couple of rugby try style catches of the heaving lines, and everybody got off ashore, (and nobody from FP wrote the blog, which is why I am doing it)
