10/09/2008 - Tenacious

Arrived in Bruges late morning Wednesday 10th Sept, fine hot day, glorious sunshine. After lunch most people went into Town, which is a deceptively long way and getting lost along the way is a real possibility so the very kind crew supplied a map so we wouldn't be late for dinner.

Bruges has lots of beautiful shops and some very fine architecture, there are lots of lovely cafes and Bars with outdoor seating so as you can sit in the sun and sip your drink, very pleasant. Some of us took the opportunity to purchase some presents, chocolate etc, and we ate at the restaurants in the old Square. Arrived back onboard rather late and in a good mood!

Following day, Thursday, all those who wished to climb the rigging took part in an assisted climb, chairs as well!

The chairs were hauled up the Foremast and the others climbed the Main. Everyone took part in this tremendous effort and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We had a happy hour! Followed by an after lunch group photo on the quay. Everyone who wished to then had a further opportunity for shore leave. Unfortunately, though it had been hot sunny weather until late afternoon the weather then broke and we had a thunderstorm, succeeded by persistent rain. People drifted back to the ship while others stayed in town in the restaurants for the remainder of the evening.
