10/05/2010 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 10/05/2010

In port at WEYMOUTH.

A day of great interest with people joining from all corners of the country. On completion of introductions and registration, a Briefing took place by Captain Clare explaining the plans for sailing on the morning tide approx 0930 and heading for Cherbourg, followed by an extensive safety brief by the 1st Mate Steve. The voyage crew then carried out exercises with mast climbing, evacuation procedures, mast and halyard working, supervised by 2nd Mate Alex and our Bosun Marcin.

Supper was a welcome break from the activity, excellently cooked by the stand-in chefs Jane and John, the mess party were equally excellent providing drinks, meals and clearing away, ably organised by Derek (Dad) – A Yarmouth boy!! We look forward to more excitement with breakfast in the morning.

And at the end of an unbelievably exhausting afternoon we look forward to harbour watches, but not me! I’ve all night in! Hooray!Messman for day one David
