13/08/2010 - Tenacious

Dated: 13/08/2010

Vic and I arrived early and we had a meal at the cafe before meeting the very friendly crew of the Tenacious. We got to know our buddies and got the idea of working as a team as the captain made everybody welcome and explained the safety procedures to us.

Then forty excited people set off in the sunshine through the big London lock. Soon we had smoko and sampled the first batch of delicious home made cakes. We motored on while we unpacked. The brave ones amongst us learnt how to climb up to the mast and along the yard arm. Some of us were not so brave! After a delicious lasagne supper we motored on and dropped anchor about a mile from Southend Pier.

We all had a good sleep but Ann says not for long enough as she was on watch until midnight! During the morning we all learnt how some of the sails work and were shown how to haul in and let go. It was fun and interesting sorting out all the ropes and managing to keep them all clockwise! The afternoon was cloudy and drizzly but not cold. We tried out our bad weather clothes and the special cosytoes, they are SO warm!
