Hello, we are the Raspberry pirates, aka the Aft starboard watch. We are now in the French port of St. Malo, having finally made it across the Channel! It took us 4 days from sailing from Portsmouth (3 nights) to get here, and cabin fever was starting to set in.
The food on board is amazing, and we’ve been very well fed.
Coming into St. Malo was an amazing experience, especially getting to go into a lock, and even before we moored up, we became a tourist attraction, with many people staring at us and taking pictures. Before lunch, we got a chance to go up the rigging further than we had been before – up to the second platform/crosstrees, and those who had not made it up before, were able to go on an assisted climb.
Having been let lose after another amazing meal, we split into groups to explore St. Malo. Some of us got lost, and struggled to understand the very fast French directions, but we all made it back in the end.
We all suffered from land-sickness, having finally got our sea legs, and the ground was rocking slightly.
We have tried crepes, French ice-cream and French bread, as well as apple tarts, coffee, sweets and many other traditional French treats.
We are all very tired, and looking forward to a good night’s sleep after a game of empire.
Bon Nuit, the raspberry pirates
