16/04/2010 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 16/04/2010

Today we are all in our wet weather gear as it is a little bit chilli!! After staying at anchor overnight we are now on our way to Boulogne. There was no need for “Nursie” to wake everyone up this morning for breakfast as weighing the anchor was the loudest alarm clock most of us have ever heard. It was interesting being on anchor watch last night filling in the log and checking the radar to make sure we weren’t drifting.

Today the crew practiced their fire drill all decked out in their fire gear. It all seemed very efficient which is lucky for us!

Tonight some of us are going ashore for our dinner. Adam is planning on “moules” after trying them in Dieppe. Rob is planning on some shopping although he is disappointed Boulogne is not known for its rock! Maybe he can buy a baguette with Boulogne tastefully written through it!!

Today at “smoko” “Cookie” had made a lovely carrot cake for Adam’s birthday. So far that is three birthdays and one 60th wedding anniversary which “Cookie” has baked for.

There was quite a party atmosphere in Boulogne this evening, most of the ship decided to head into town, stopping at the first bar on the left that served Moules for Adam the Birthday Boy! After a quick head count organised by Jason, a look of shock fell across the face of the French waitress as we asked for a table for 23! By the time we were all seated it looked like the best place in town and were joined by several locals! Beer and wine flowing the birthday boy enjoyed the local cuisine of moules mariner followed by two desserts!! Returning to Nellie’s bar the party continued into the small hours.
