18/09/2008 - Lord Nelson
Dated: 18/09/2008
After an almost perfect night sail, the day dawned fine with a light breeze, the sun appearing through scattered clouds. We were on our way south having passed through the Alderney Race at midnight, towards our destination San Malo.
With most sails set, we were making 6 knots under a hot sun, which gave us time to learn about tacking and wearing the ship, shortly to be put into pratice. By reducing sail, we timed our arrival to be able to pick up the pilot at 6.15 and Rhys his first experience of helming under the watchful eye of the pilot, through the lock and into the inner harbour.
The evening sunset, as we tied up, hopefully forecasts a fine day tomorrow for our full day in San Malo with the prospects of a French dinner ashore to complete the stay.
