Tenacious and her crew today had a fantastic experience - sailing up the Istanbul Strait from the Marmara Sea to the Black Sea. We joined the Tall Ship convoy in the morning and followed a Turkish warship through the strait. On port we have the European city of Istanbul with great historical buildings (The Blue Mosque and others) and on Starboard the Asian side of Istanbul. The port authorities had closed the strait to other traffic with only sailing ships passing through. A great sight when we passed underneath the two bridges spanning the strait. The area is an amazing intersection of history, geography, politics and religion, and the architecture we could see around us illustrated that at every turn. While many aboard are able to see Istanbul on the return leg of the race, others have decided to return with families and explore this exciting city. There were several sightings of dolphins as we passed through the Strait, but the largest pod greeted us as we entered the Black
Sea. Tenacious is further east than she has ever been, and currently
awaits instructions about the start of the last portion of the race to Varna.
