2…6…Heave (or should I say “hurl”) Ladies and Gentleman!
We were met on our crossing to Tallinn, Estonia by 30 knot winds and rolling waves! Needless to say the majority of the crew were incapacitated with a strong sickness of the seas; however we have arrived in Tallinn on time and in one piece but perhaps lighter in the stomachs.
Our watch in particular, rallied to the occasion and conducted our midnight till four am watch in high spirits and armed with Sarah’s supply of Kellogg’s Bran Flakes. We now all know each others and John’s (the second mate) worst ever Christmas presents and despite the circumstances all of our favourite foods.
So to Day 6, we have all enjoyed wonderful sunshine and tanning weather in Estonia to the extent that all of us ‘young’uns’ when given leave made a “run” of two hours, three buses and one wrong beach, to the Baltic sea-shore. Robin especially (our tanned beach-babe) enjoyed observing the Speedos and sandcastles.
On the whole it was a fantastic day until the late after-noon when misfortune struck in our midst and emptied our pockets; tight-lines on your wallets in Estonia, people, no-one is safe.
In the evening, we all cooled down to enjoy our watch dinner in a traditional Estonian restaurant alongside the Old Town market-place and main-plaza.
Today more glorious summer-weather to chill in the parks and see the sights, Jim most certainly enjoyed the open-air museum revelling in a world before modern technology.
He says it was “blissfully quiet” and proposes that in future we send out the blog in print rather than via the internet, perhaps keep an eye on your post-boxes in the next few months or years then, for delivery?!
We leave Tallinn tomorrow morning at 09.00am to head off to the archipelagos of Finnish waters and barbeques on deck.
It’s a hard life a-voyaging folks but someone’s gotta do it!
