Well its 1am and Aft Starboard (Lou, Charlie, Robyn, Kirsty & Jess) are on the 12am – 4am watch! Rebecca is our final member of Aft Starboard but is on mess duty so is excused from all her other watches! We are all wrapped up very warm (Some of us still have our PJs on under all our other layers!) but at the moment we’re not feeling the cold too much! It’s currently rather foggy, we can’t really see much from the bridge, but luckily we’ve got Jon to ensure that we’re heading in the right direction! The Lord Nelson is currently on the way to Orkney from Stornoway which will be very exciting as we’re going on a tour of historical and archaeology sites on the main island.
So anyway, that is what is occuring right at this moment, back to the excitement that was Sunday! We were still in Stornoway and there was a bit of time for free time (most of which was spent by people having a nap after breakfast!) Kirsty was on mess duty so spent all her morning chopping fruit and veg for our dinner! The team were on watch from 12.30 until 4pm and during that time: we saw about 30 dolphins all swimming and jumping right alongside the ship, Jess killed the fish that Fred had caught and Charlie introduced Jon to the malteaser challenge! Aft Port: watch out... we keep practising our skills!
After watch it was the daily ‘Happy Hour.’ We were in the lower mess today (Which was good as it was raining!) and we did a whole variety of tasks including cleaning the heads (toilets) and cleaning under the radiators below the seats with toothbrushes... yes toothbrushes! We found lots of exciting items including spaghetti... LOTS of spaghetti, hair bobbles and a knife, as well as fluff and dirt.
We had an hour free after happy hour and before dinner so we decided as the sea was calm (and we didn’t actually seem to be going anywhere) so Kirsty & Lou (And Trish from Aft Port) decided to go for a climb! We all made it to the first platform and then Trish decided to aim for the second. She nearly made it but couldn’t quite get over the platform- oh well; we’re all going to try next time!
I’ve been told I have to mention Sunday dinner! We had a full beef roast – Yorkshire puddings and all!
