22/06/2010 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 22/06/2010

Hi again from Forward Port.  We’ve had an amazing time since we last blogged!!!  It’s now day 6 and we are in Stromness in the Orkney’s.  They gave us the day off and sent us on a bus tour of Orkney and we are giving Cookie and Colin the night off by heading on shore for some fish and chips for supper. Yum yum!!

We have been super lucky with our watches ... since we last spoke Eileen helmed us to anchor south of Skye, Emma helmed us to anchor at North Uist, Amy had to be awkward and take us into Stornoway backwards and Jos helmed us into Stromness!!  All the other watches are jealous!

Yesterday Eileen climbed to the very top of the mast!!  She was the first one up there on our voyage although she was a wee bit upset to find there wasn’t a buzzer to press at the top!

Emma was clinging on for dear life whilst up on the yard in high winds whilst Amy had a rest and just sat on the platform.  Emma has the bruises to prove her climbs and to date no one can beat her on the bruises front although Abi is about to challenge her when she climbs the rigging tomorrow.

Jos almost gave Emma a heart attack whist they were on harbour watch at 2am when she sneaked in the back door and Emma thought we were under attack!!  To make matters worse Eileen, Martha and Amy managed to eat the ships supply of custard creams in 15mins with Amy managing 3 in her mouth at one time – all Jos and Emma had left was rich teas!  Abi skived this watch and was happily tucked up in bed blissfully unaware of the mischief her watch was getting up to.  She won’t be doing that again.

Martha our youngest watch member decided she was a wee bit tired and had a wee snooze – the only problem was she fell asleep whilst sitting in the captain’s chair on the bridge whilst we were on watch!  We will let her off this time as it was 4am!

Jess went for a skive whilst we were taking in all the sails when she nipped off for a shower.  She pleads innocence but we all clearly heard the captain announce we were required on deck at 11:15 to take the sails in!!  The jury is out on this one.

We have happy hour every day where we have to do some cleaning on the ship.  Emma was tasked with hovering the stairs whilst Abi took Henry (the Hoover) for a ride on the lift.  Poor Henry had a nose bleed not from the heights he scaled but rather Abi lowered the lift on his nozzle.  You’ll all be glad to know Henry has recovered from his ordeal.  The radiators are all sparkling now thanks to Eileen and Jess scrubbing them with a toothbrush!

Amy has been keeping us all entertained with her sweating which seems to land her on the deck every time.

Over and out from Forward Port.... until they let us play with the computer again!
