25/05/2009 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 25/05/2009

We are still alongside in the heart of lovely Dublin. We awoke to a bright sunny day and after a hearty breakfast a la Gerry we set to getting the ship ready for our new voyage crew's arrival.

True to form the afternoon saw the new crew for LN721 making their way up the gangway, they handed over their passports, signed on, found their bunks and fellow crew. Captain Clare Cupples then welcomed everyone to the Lord Nelson and told of her plans for the coming voyage (well plan A that is) Introductions were made to the permanent crew members, namely; Chris the Mate, Ali the 2nd Mate, Marcin the Bosun, Rachel the Chief Engineer with Mr Chip's the 2nd Engineer, to complete the crew introductions Gerry the Cook with his able assistant Mona, Pam the Medical Purser and the Bosuns mates Nick and Matt.

The safety briefings then began, with Chris our Mate doing some excellent Russian translation, is there no end to this mans' talents.

Climbing harness allocation will have to wait until the morning, I hope it stays dry.

Weatherwise its a bit of a grey evening, but with a promise of light winds tomorrow, we intend to leave Dublin at lunchtime enjoying the Liffey as we head East to the Irish Sea.

Watch this space....
