26/05/2010 - Lord Nelson
Dated: 26/05/2010
The new voyage crew arrived very promptly to join Voyage LN 744 to Glasgow from Southampton. Briefing formalities and “hands aloft” were completed before Supper and the ship left the quay at about seven-o-clock to motor down to an anchorage off the Hamble River. After a quiet night, the anchor was lifted and we set off down the Solent and the Needles, heading for Lands End. Bracing drills and Evacuation drills were conducted in drizzle but the day brightened and the sun came out as we passed across the bay towards St Alban’s Head and onward past Portland Bill with Start Point in sight as the evening sun descended. The skipper revealed his cunning plan to continue motoring towards Land’s End and pick up some promised South Westerlies to take us up the Irish Sea. Time will tell if he is right.
