26/10/2009 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 26/10/2009

Its day one and everyone has got here in one piece. The crew was assembled by two o’clock ready for the initial briefing and safety talks. Those with buddy’s got to meet their other halves but everyone was introduced to their watch and watch leaders.

We set off from Southampton shortly after 4 o’clock and steamed out of the dock. From there we have progressed out past the Isle of Wight. During this time we were able to gear up for going up the mast although it soon became too dark. We also enjoyed an excellent meal.

It is now about 11 o’clock and we have almost finished our first watch which has been both interesting and exciting. It was good to have the opportunity to helm but also studying our route and the machines in the chart room was enjoyable.

It has been good to meet new people and get started with our adventure. We have enjoyed meeting the crew and it is great to be making friends already although I guess we are all in the same boat after all!
