27/07/2008 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 27/07/2008

Thanks to cookie Wendy for another excellent lunch. We had so much energy we were on watch 15mins early. SF10's assistance was much required to break the trend of pirouettes! Ali did a fantastic job of getting us sailing, Despite SF10's desperate pleas to halt lunch for the required tack. Ali was king enough to let the rest of the crew finish lunch first. Still it meant we had time to complete the watch quiz. Our route was changeable for a while until the breeze came along. Do we tack and lose time or lose distance and go behind Sule Skerry Lighthouse? Time to set spanker; we are all well trained as this one now! The wind picked up and the excellent helm orders by Ali meant we passed in front of Sule Skerry Lighthouse with ease. For a while the fog lifted and we could see the island and another competitor-The Pelican. Come on we can catch them! We also had time for a few lessons in the chartroom. The biggest cheers and group bonding occurred when Ali appeared from the chartroom with our first Norwegian report together with news we had gone from 0 to 4.9 knots-yeah! Toodle pip we are off for some retail therapy and bargain hunting in the ships shop!
