27/08/2008 - Tenacious

Dated: 27/08/2008

Voyage of discovery mark 2: As we sailed through the North Sea, for the first time in my life I was going to the land of chocolate and beer. We had had a roughish crossing the night before; the sea sickness casualties were heavy. I managed to avoid being ill though. We sailed through the lock at Zeebrugge then as we sailed up the canal towards Bruges we did our very first happy hour- the first of many!

Then we had shore leave and hit the bars ( bad idea) and the chocolate shops ( good idea). I had tostay reasonably sober up because I was on harbour watch at four o,clock in the mornilng . The adventure continues.

27th August -Day 4-We arrived in Bruges about lunchtime yesterday and most people went off shopping, and looking for pubs!! The permanent crew stayed onboard for dinner. I came back early to start my watch at 10pm.where we took over from the crew for the beginning of the night watch. I had lots of fun watching some people walking back after drinking 1 or 2 many pints . This really made my evening very interesting and fun. Come midnight I finished my watch and went down to bed for the night. This morning it was the turn of the wheelchair members of the crew to be lifted up to the foretop. Everyone took part by pulling the ropes to slowly lift each wheelchair user, 1 by 1 to the foretop.Everyone cheered as each individual reached the top. At the same time some people who hadn't climbed before, climbed with assistance on the main mast. After all the hard work we all settled down for lunch, which was great as always. After lunch we set off to our next destination which is still to be decided, as Amsterdam is full, but whatever, we have to pass back down the canal to Zeebrugge first.
