Today started with a not so friendly wake up call of the anchor clanking off the bow of the ship. Although we were reminded that many people have seen a lot rougher weather, people continued to feel the effects of the rocking boat. The staysails that had provided at least some power had to be taken down due to the easterly wind. However an increase in engine power meant we steamed towards the entrance to the river Elbe, back on track to make the Kiel Canal by late this evening. Passed many ships including a large cargo vessel which seemed rather confused about where it was trying to get to . . . Captain gave a very insightful talk on the wonders of the Kiel canal, which was very well received in the lower mess, right after dinner. Moral is higher than ever!
