29/08/2009 - Tenacious

Dated: 29/08/2009

Day 2 - Saturday 29th June

Our voyage crew of 38 were all on board by 4.00pm yesterday with the arrival of the afternoon train from Glasgow. This followed a rather hectic 'same day' voyage crew change where the previous crew had been on board until the morning.

Crew briefings were finished by 9.30 this morning. Hands aloft training followed with a taste of the rainy weather to come!

Having finished training we now have to apply what we have learned: bracing the yards, getting the feel of the ship and getting to know everyone. The crew are all very exited and movivated. The food is great (thanks Graham...

and Ros), Yellow oilies look hot.....

Left quayside in Oban at 2.26 under engine power against a westerly wind (= wrong direction for Sound of Mull). We are currently in the Sound of Mull:

manx shearwaters, black backed gulls, gannets all seen - thats just a start...

We will be anchoring off Salen in the Sound of Mull about 5.30pm. Hoping for the forecast, strong southerly winds tommorrow to take us northward up the Minches.

Ian Sumner, John Hobbs Aft port watch
