30/12/2009 - Tenacious

Dated: 30/12/2009

After Bella’s poetic voyage beneath the stars, I must bring you down to earth! Following a circuit of the straits of Sicily (between Sicily and Africa), in the force 9 storm, the weather moderated and the sea turned a vivid shade of green, like the faces of some of the voyage crew! We all recovered from our seasickness, some more slowly than others, and after a night at anchor off Licata, we are now in Porto Empedocle, on the southern coast of Sicily. A not very pretty fishing and commercial port, but it didn’t take the galley crew long to find a fine bar, on the pretext of shopping for milk – a likely story! After another glorious rosy sunset, many of us are off ashore this evening to sample the fish for which this place is renowned. Tomorrow we sail for Malta, arriving, we hope, in time for the New Year’s Eve celebrations. But more of that next time. Finally, thanks to Dave the cook and his assistant Rosie for their patience and tenacity in feeding us through some really rough weather.

John and Lyn, Fwd Stbd
