31/12/2008 - Tenacious

Dated: 31/12/2008

NEW YEARS EVE 2008 - crew prepared for partying - early eve, Graham produced another wonderful spread of duck, rice and a chocolate pudding to die for!

Watch leaders ably served us, wine flowed, laughter, jokes, stories of the trip and many photos were taken to embarrass and remember our night. A brief pause during the evening where we drank, chatted and generally really enjoyed ourselves. At around 11.30pm mulled wine, mince pies and canapés were supplied to an already fairly merry bunch. The most senior and junior members of the crew, Harry and Charlotte rang out 2008 and rang in 2009 on the ships bell, then we all assembled on the bridge to watch the most amazing firework display which took around 15 minutes - they were set off on the harbour wall right opposite Tenacious so we had a great view, an experience for crew to remember for many years ahead. Shortly after lots of hugging, kissing, good wishes for the New Year followed. Some went ashore for more partying early into the morning, experiencing a wonderful atmosphere of sociability, very well dressed party goers and lights, the streets were packed from side to side - it was like a scene from a film set - and the best of it was there was no violence, just safe fantastic fun!!

NEW YEARS DAY - A rather sleepy crew awoke to the sound of Jude & Susannah calling in the New Year to their version of "What shall we do with the drunken sailor" and "Auld Lang Syne" then a late breakfast. No duties were needed so the day was ours to do as we pleased. Some went ashore to the town, beach, take in local area scenery and some stayed on board chilling out sun soaking on the aft deck. So after a quiet day some had dinner on board and some ashore, the sun setting after a beautiful new years day spent in a very different way to some previous and definitely one to remember for many years to come or maybe to encourage more voyages over this time of year.
