A fantastic adventure for three thanks to East Hampsted Rotary Club

Dated: 17/03/2008

The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) is offering an unforgettable opportunity for three people with physical disabilities to crew a tall ship on a seaborne adventure this summer for free.

The places are available due to a generous donation from the Easthampstead Rotary Club; ensuring three disabled people from the Ascot, Bracknell and Wokingham area get the chance to embark on this great adventure for free.

This fantastic voyage will be aboard the JST’s magnificent square rigged tall ship SV TENACIOUS, which provides mixed ability crews of up to 40 people the experience and thrill of a lifetime.

This voyage will be departing Poole on the 15th June 2008. During this time voyage crew can be expected to take in the beauty of the British and French coastlines and may look forward to dropping anchor in various ports of Northern France, the Channel Islands, Belgium or the Netherlands. Tenacious will then return to the UK at the port of Tilbury, 8 days later on the 22ndJune.

TENACIOUS is the largest wooden tall ship of her kind to be built in the UK in the last 100 years. She cost over £14 million to build, £6.5 million from the National Lottery and the rest from sponsorship and fundraising. Since her maiden voyage in September 2000 she has taken over 5,760 people to sea, of these over 2,210 have been physically disabled.

Whilst on board crew members will play an active role in sailing the ship taking part in a range of activities including helming, setting sails and cleaning, affectionately referred to as ‘happy hour’. Absolutely no sailing experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a sense of adventure.

TENACIOUS and the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s first ship, STS LORD NELSON are the only ships in the world which have been specifically designed and built to enable both physically disabled and able-bodied people to sail together on equal terms.

On each voyage up to seven people can take part in our Leadership At Sea scheme for 16 -25 years olds and qualify for the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award (residential).

To apply for one of the three fully funded places on this voyage please contact Mr Robin Wood at the Easthampstead Rotary Club on 0118 978 9205 or alternatively email him at robin@apexmortgages.freeserve.co.uk explaining why you should be considered for this fantastic opportunity.
