Greetings from the afternoon watch as we continue our sail from this morning
at 9am. We are currently sailing Northeast of Tenerife, carefully guarding
our berth for tomorrow night's celebration to see in the New Year.

Boxing day upon Tenacious started with a late breakfast, as its Christmas!
After breakfast we all piled onto the quayside for voyage photographs along with the Lord Nelson crew.

At anchor off Puerto Vueltas, Gomera, the evening of 23rd, we had a BBQ on deck. The setting was stunning, close to the almost vertical cliffs and dramatic skyline of Gomera. We had marinated jerk pork, salmon, hamburgers and salads.

“Land Ho!” greeted us as we wearily hauled ourselves out of our slumbers this morning. The night watches had passed quietly. This morning an air of excitement began to spread. With the wind set fair (and just a little help from the engines, for the last part) the outline of La Palma climbed from water level into the cloud ahead of us.

Forward port up for early breakfast and on watch from 8am-12:30. A few wind
changes in the night had kept the night watches busy with bracing and
switching of sail arrangements.

We departed Lisbon at Midday yesterday and have been sailing, engine off, for 24 hours in th shining sun, so it's already very different f rom the previous voyage!

After another roly-poly night at sea we finally passed Cascais on the Portuguese coastline and made our way into the quieter waters at the mouth of the river Rio Tejo.
The river that would take us on our journey to Lisbon.

Having left the commercial port of Leixoes yesterday we have been heading south down the Portuguese coast towards our final port, Lisbon. The grand plan when we left was to motor west in order to have a good run into Lisbon under full sail.

We are leaving Oporto after a 24 stopover. Many went sightseeing around the cathedral and port-wine makeres. We are heading for Lisbon and the wind is, yet again, not favourable as it is from the SW. The sun in shining and all aboard are happy.

Forward Starboard:
Last night the week was topped off by a 'vast' tapas selection at El Aguila.
We all then returned to the ship to spend our last night in Tenerife together. Up early for breakfast with the sun rising over the harbour wall in santa cruz.

Saturday morning we left the quay side watched by a crowd of locals, some with donated eye patches. We braced the sails full to port ready for a full days sailing.

This morning Lord Nelson arrived in Leixoes, (pronounced Le-Choice), an arrival timed perfectly for the crew to move straight from harbour stations to lunch.

On Thursday, we set sail from La Palma bound for an anchorage off the island of Gomera. Once we arrived we dropped anchor in a fantastic bay surrounded by steep volcanic cliffs. In the evening we were presented with punch provided by the engineers to watch the sun set.

On a warm sunny Wednesday afternoon in La Palma, Tenacious sailed serenely into port following an overnight passage from Tenerife. Overseen by a large cruise ship of interested German tourists, we made fast, secured our gangway and set our sights on exploring the pretty port town of Santa Cruz de La Palma.

Today is Monday and, with Spain on the horizon, it is safe to say that we have successfully crossed the Bay of Biscay. We are making an unscheduled stop in La Coruna to buy a new electric pencil sharpener for the Captain and celebrate Chip's Birthday.
