San Sebastian. Day of the assisted climb which took place while still in the harbour. Everyone showed Great Spirit and achieved what they thought impossible to them, and passed all expectations and more.

Woke up in Gomera to find the skies a little overcast, but at last the wind had dropped. This morning was the assisted mast climb and everyone who tried made it up there overcoming their nerves to receive applause from the rest of the crew below.

Today's sunshine seemed far from our minds as we had our watch last night from 2000 hours to 0000 as we travelled between La Gomera and Tenerife and got caught in the middle of Force 8 winds which was NOT pleasant! The only consolation was that it was dry and we could see the stars as well as a few planets.

Having explored around the island yesterday the intrepid sailors of the Lord Nelson took to climbing the masts of the ship. Today was the turn for assisted climbs where everyone with a little fear and problems with heights gets to go aloft. This is always a highlight of the trip and brings all abilities together under the ethos of the Trust.

Our daily views consists of sail by viewings of our ship by interested sailors, bright blue sparkling water, clear skies (mostly) and tall palm trees surrounding the ship, it’s a pretty cool place to be...
