We are having a great time maintaining! Yesterday was showery,so jobs got done below deck as well as on it. The chartroom door is sanded, and a lot of the rails are too...and as today is hot and sunny again, they should be varnished soon.

We're on our last day motoring back to Las Palmas. The sun is shining yet again and after 'enthusiastic' happiness and smoko with yet more of Cookie's delicious cake we are getting ready to make Nellie pretty by stowing the sails.

The sky is blue, as is the sea. The morning routine was adjusted to permit a bit more sail setting - this time the spanker and royals - giving us a glorious steady 6 knots.

Day 18 of the voyage. We're settled in to our routine, the passing of the days noted mainly by the changing times of our watches. Now that the moon is rising early in the morning, the evening and night watches have the wonders of the Milky Way to gaze at., 200 years ago, unexceptional, but in these times something very few of us have been privileged to see.

The morning was spent in huddles as each watch assembled egg carrying missiles with great care and precision. Much excitement when a whale was sighted - we hoped for a second blow, but it was not to be.

Awakened to another beautiful day at sea, with a lovely sunrise and blue skies.. A flying fish was discovered on deck this morning, an unfortunate landing for the fish but fascinating for those of us seeing one for the first time.

The silver moonshine on the rolling waves was our introduction to the day. We arrived on the bridge at 0350 just as the moon had set, one wonder was replaced by the next as the starry night was now revealed all the more brilliant for its subtlty.
