The evening of 25/2/13 we all had a great time in the lower mess celebrating
a great voyage.

The sight of the southern ‘urbs’ of Durban was greeted with mixed emotions of achievement at reaching our destination and sadness that for most on our watch the party’s (nearly) over; intrepid Liz of mast-climbing fame – whom I forgot to boast is in our watch – is the only one ‘Carrying On To India’; wonder if she’ll miss us?

As we made our way Southwards a breast of the coast of Sicilly, the Sunday
night watches enjoyed clear skies as the ship was bathed in the light of a
full moon beneath a spectacular display of stars.

Afternoon 22nd to Moring Watch 24th Feb 2013
Despite weather reports to the contrary at the start of the watch there was
no wind with sufficient force to allow us to sail from our berth in Siracusa
to our destination this evening Riposto.

While the post watch gentle bar party was in full swing Aft Starboard Watch took the helm. This 8 – 12 watch was in sharp contrast to last time we took the wheel and George enjoyed every last minute of it

Today began early for Aft Port and by 7 a.m. we had set seven sails with our seven watch members, ably assisted by Mate Jon and Cadet Toby whilst Liz nobly kept us on course.

This morning Mandy and George, two of our amazing less able-bodied crew ‘climbed ‘the rigging in their wheelchairs, harness attached, gently assisted to ‘fighting top’ – the first yard – by the rest of the crew hauling on ropes.

Monday was a mix of sweet sailing under a warm sky. Letting the crew recover from a bumpy night. Excitement reigned when we passed from Atlantic to Indian Ocean south of Cape Aghulhas (which is further south than the Cape of Good Hope).

Well the last voyage crew disembarked on the 12th after a great sail off the South African coast and a visit to Simonstown. Cookie Derek disapeared off back to the UK and cookie Dave arrived.

Sicily. Exploring day for many VC, housekeeping
for PC. Mike mended another sail and revarnished one of the rails. After
assisted climbs and the voyage photo the ship was visited by Italian TV and

On Saturday morning many donned foul weather gear for the arrival in Simonstown. It was a wet wet morning. The mist hovered as we came into port with Richard assisting Marcin on the doti boat.

We left the overnight anchorage at 0700, yesterday and motored the 6 miles back to Grand Harbour Valletta. We entered harbour and under the command of Captain John who reversed Tenacious into our berth between a line of mooring bouys and two large supper yachts moored end to which made for an interesting manoeuvre!
