Actor David Proud joins UK Tall Ship Sailing Adventure
On Friday 8th October, 27 year old David Proud from Peterborough will join Tenacious for a tall ship adventure. Along with his buddy Jason Cook they will be filming a personal diary of his adventure at sea. David Ellery of Viewpoint Productions is producing the item for the next series of BBC’s Inside Out.
David was a well known personality from the BBC soap opera EastEnders in which he played the character Adam Best. He has recently become Patron of the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.
David will board Tenacious in London’s, West India Dock and it is planned to sail to an overseas port, before returning to Southampton on Friday 15th October. He will join a unique crew of mixed abilities and ages, all of whom will play equal roles in sailing the ship.
Whilst on his voyage he and the rest of the crew will have an opportunity to pull on ropes, take the helm and go aloft. Going aloft can be a spectacular event for any wheelchair user, reaching the first platform of a mast at a height of 125ft!
This is David’s second opportunity to sail with the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST). It is eight years since he last took part in a trip, from and to Oban as part of a Wish You Were Here programme. David recently commented;
"Sailing with the JST is a trip of a lifetime. I am delighted to be joining them again and can not wait to get on board. It's hugely important that as many disabled people as possible know about the adventures the JST offers. All of the staff at the JST work incredibly hard to make each trip an unforgettable experience."
The JST owns and operates the only two tall ships in the world that have been specially designed and built to enable a crew of mixed abilities to participate equally in the sailing experience.
