Charity Day Sail

Dated: 16/09/2010

- PRESS RELEASE -

Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) is delighted to be hosting a unique opportunity for charities to join us on board our tall ship Tenacious on Monday 13th September 2010.  Tenacious is one of two tall ships owned and operated by the JST, taking people of all physical abilities to sea.

Invitations were sent at the start of the year to join us for one of our unique day sails. An opportunity for charities with a similar interest in the disability sector to see first hand what sailing with the JST is all about.  Along with members of the charity sector the Chairman of Southampton City Council Carol Leversha will be joining us for the day.  Tasks including setting sail, pulling ropes and helming the ship, along with food throughout the day.  There will also be an exciting opportunity to climb the mast, which is 135ft high, a daring challenge for anyone.

The charities who have accepted their invitation include the following:

  • Blesma
  • RNLI
  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome Support Group
  • FRISBEE
  • Headway
  • Macmillan
  • Hampshire County Council
  • Leonard Cheshire

  • Royal British Legion
  • Fortitude
  • Wooden Spoon
  • British Heart Foundation
  • Naomi House
  • Stroke Association
  • Vitalise
  • Status Employment
  • Not Forgotten Association
  • The Even Keel Project

In advance of the Charity Day Sail, Alex Lochrane (CEO) commented:

"The charity day sail is a fantastic opportunity to meet other charities and for them to experience a taster of tall ship sailing with the JST. We hope the day raises awareness throughout the charity sector and highlight the potential of working with us and how it can enrich people’s lives.  I am looking forward to meeting everyone and welcoming them on board."
