- PRESS RELEASE -
JST White Water Challenge, get wet for a good cause!
Event: Sunday 3 July 2011, approximately 10:00 to 18:00!
In association with Cardiff International White Water, Cardiff branch of the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) is putting together the JST White Water Challenge. There will be 24 rafts of six paddlers along with an experienced "rafter" (provided by CIWW) which will compete in three race sessions to complete the 250m of raging rapids of the CIWW course in the fastest times. There are trophies for the fastest in each race session and also for the fastest time on the day.
The Jubilee Sailing Trust is best known for the challenge of Tall Ship sailing with crews of all physical abilities working side-by-side on equal terms. In the spirit of the JST, each raft will be expected to have 2 paddlers with a physical or sensory disability amongst the 6 paddlers. Not every team that enters will be able to provide their own disabled paddlers and the JST are working in partnership with local charities to nominate individuals with physical disabilities or sensory impairments. Entry Forms are available on request by visiting the website - www.jst-cardiff.org.uk
Event Co-ordinator Keith Shankland says
"We are looking for teams that are prepared to get wet by accepting the challenge of tackling Cardiff’s exhilarating White Water course... and help a good cause at the same time. The JST is working with local disabled peoples’ charities on this project and we would like to think that working as part on a team of mixed physical abilities as part of the JST White Water Challenge will encourage individuals to move on to adventure of Tall Ship sailing on Tenacious later in the year"
Sara Beer of Disability Arts Cymru says:
"Disability Arts Cymru is very pleased to be working with JST on this project and already have members that are excited about the prospect of taking part"
Funds raised for the JST will be used to help fund voyage crew for the JST’s Tall Ship Tenacious on voyages from Weymouth to Cardiff and from Cardiff to Dublin in September 2011.

Tenacious will also be alongside in Cardiff Bay on September 5th & 6th and open to the public for viewing.
