Adventurers Wanted for Tall Ship Voyages
The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) owns and operates the majestic tall ships, Lord Nelson and Tenacious, specially designed and built to enable able-bodied and disabled people to sail side by side as equals, learning new skills, forging great friendships and meeting new challenges.
The JST has received a generous donation from the Christina Aitchison Trust for bursary funding for one young person from North-East or South-West England, aged 16-25 years old, to experience a tall ship voyage. Each bursary will partly finance a place on a JST voyage and can be used by a young person who wishes to take part in the Leadership@Sea Scheme.
JST voyages vary in length – there are voyages of between 3 and 7 days long and voyages of more than 8 days. There will be voyages in the spring and early summer of 2011 departing from ports in the south and south-west of England and voyages later in the summer from the north–east. Full details are available at: www.jst@org.uk.
If you would like to apply for a bursary to fund a place on a tall ship voyage with the JST, contact Josephine Hall at josephine@jst.org.uk, or telephone her on 023 80 449108, extension 218. Details of the bursary application process are also available on the Bursaries and Project Donations page at: www.jst.org.uk.
The JST operates a 'buddy’ system on board ship for disabled travellers who wish to have an able-bodied companion, or to take their own carer with them on a voyage. Carers would have to pay the full cost of their voyage. Information on 'buddies’ can also be found on the JST website.
