Adventurers Wanted for Tall Ship Voyages
The Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) owns and operates the majestic tall ships, Lord Nelson and Tenacious, specially designed and built to enable able-bodied and disabled people to sail side by side as equals, learning new skills, forging great friendships and meeting new challenges.
2011 is an important year for the JST as the Trust will be celebrating Lord Nelson’s 25th and Tenacious’s 10th birthdays. In this celebratory year the ships will be visiting as much of the UK as possible. From August to September Lord Nelson will be sailing down the east coast of England.
The JST has received generous donations for bursary funding for people to experience a tall ship voyage. Each bursary will partly finance a place on a JST voyage. There are currently berths available in September 2011 on the voyage departing from Ipswich on 3 September and arriving in Great Yarmouth on 9 September. Full details of all of the JST’s voyages are available at: www.jst.org.uk.
Facilities on board the ships include flat, wide decks for ease of movement around the ships, wheelchair lifts between deck levels, a hearing loop, a speaking compass and the option for joystick steering or the usual ship’s wheel, but with hydraulic power-assisted steering.
If you would like to apply for a bursary to fund a place on a tall ship voyage with the JST, contact Josephine Hall at josephine@jst.org.uk, or telephone her on 023 80 449108, extension 218. Details of the bursary application process are also available on the Bursaries and Project Donations page at: www.jst.org.uk.
The JST operates a buddy system on board ship which pairs able-bodied and physically-disabled people together. Everyone’s there to help one another and share the experience, so the system works both ways! Information on buddies can also be found on the JST website.
