- PRESS RELEASE -
Santa Dash, Sunday 12th December 10:30am
For only £12 you can enter and help fundraise for the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) by joining us in 2010’s Santa Dash. Starting from Southampton Common it’s a 5km run which offers great fun for the whole family. Entry includes our Santa suit and every penny you raise in sponsorship, additional to the £12 entry fee will go directly to the life changing tall ship adventures at sea.
The Southampton Santa dash is a scenic, slightly undulating in places, course that will give you that elusive "escaped the city" feeling. The Start and Finish line is halfway up Coronation Avenue south. The course is a well balanced two laps of Southampton Common. There are a couple of long straights for those that are looking for a personal best and superb scenery for those that aren't.
The Common is an area of stunning natural beauty so don't worry if you get there early, there's plenty to see before and after all that Santa Dashing. It's the largest open space in the City boundaries (326 acre site). It's also a haven for flora and fauna and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest with the inclusion of the Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre which gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the local ecology and wildlife. It's approximately 20 minutes walk from the City Centre and Southampton Central Station
There’s no changing facility at the site so we recommend arriving at the event in your sports kit and you can pick up your Santa suit at the information marquee near the start. Portaloo toilets will be available. The loos will be situated next to the paddling pool close to the Start line.
Buggys and pushchairs are welcome, although please be willing to start at the back and be aware of other competitors as you make your way round.
See you on the start line!
