Join our fundraising team of up to 20 people who will run past some of London’s famous landmarks to support our work with able-bodied and disabled people on our tall ships, Lord Nelson and Tenacious.
The BUPA London 10K (6.2 miles) takes place in the heart of London on 27th May 2012 and though the online entry for the race is now closed, you can still enter by taking up one of JST’s remaining guaranteed charity places.
The JST operates the only two tall ships in the world to have been specially designed to enable people of all physical abilities to take a full and active part in tall ship sailing – which for many can be a life-changing experience. To make this possible, we rely heavily on fundraising and anyone ready and willing to take on the personal challenge of the BUPA London 10K on our behalf will be asked to raise £150 towards helping physically disabled people take on the challenge of tall ship sailing.
The exciting annual running race takes place in the heart of London and is set to be even better than last year as the course is likely to be used for the 2012 Olympic marathon runs. The race follows a clockwise route and runners will pass many of London’s famous sights including Admiralty Arch, Nelson’s Column, St Paul’s Cathedral, Bank of England, Millennium Bridge, Tate Gallery, Cleopatra’s Needle, London Eye, Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Buckingham Palace acts as the backdrop for both the start and finish.
JST’s CEO Alex Lochrane has raced in the BUPA London 10K for two years in a row and says "This is a fantastic chance to see London’s sights while the roads are clear and empty of traffic – and it’s going to be particularly special in this Olympic year. Our ship Lord Nelson was named after England’s most famous disabled sailor so we hope our team of runners will look up as they pass the great man’s memorial".
Final registration for the Race must take place before 27th April and so anyone wishing to enter through the JST’s charity places should contact JST Community and Events Fundraiser Kelly Carter on 023 8042 6868 or
fundraising@jst.org.uk as soon as possible.
