Mast Climb Fever to Hit Portland

Dated: 10/03/2010

You too can reach the top of the mast

Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) and Poole Sailability are planning to put on a show for members of the public on Sunday 9th May 2010 at Portland Docks when members of Poole Sailability join other thrill seekers to take on the challenge of climbing the 100ft mast of Jubilee Sailing Trust’s tall ship, Lord Nelson.

But that’s not all. Jubilee Sailing Trust is looking for more daredevils who fancy feeling the wind in their hair as they clamber up rope and wood ladders to reach the very top of the mast (known on board as the button)

All climbers are asked to raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship for the big day. Funds raised by each climber from Poole Sailability will be split equally between the two organisations, while all other climbers will be raising money for Jubilee Sailing Trust.

Lord Nelson, and Jubilee Sailing Trust’s other ship, Tenacious, are the only tall ships of their kind in the world that have been designed and built to enable crews of all physical ability to sail side by side as equals.

Alex Lochrane, Chief Executive of JST said, "I'm really looking forward to this year's event, our mast climb is such a thrilling way to raise money for a great local charity.  Standing 125ft tall, the main mast is certainly a challenge for those climbing, but also a really fun day out for those cheering their family and friends all the way to the top!"

Cut off date for applications is 1st May 2010
