Voyage 332 Tenerife to Guadeloupe Day 1
At the end of a short maintenance period, the new crew arrived over the last few days, most having left a wet and windy UK to join TENACIOUS in warm sunshine in Tenerife.
We were joined in harbour by 4 other tall ships: LORD NELSON, Alexander Von Humboldt, Roald Amundsen and Stavros S Niarchos. The normal evening meal was replaced by a wonderful champagne buffet on deck, After supper groups of crew visited the other ships but we all returned to Tenacious for a midnight champagne toast and a grandstand view of the fireworks. Following tradition, our oldest crew member, Ken, rang out the old year, and our youngest, Jacko, rang in the new with great enthusiasm. We were then treated to a sensational firework display, launched from the harbour wall less than a hundred metres away, which filled the sky above TENACIOUS and caused Captain Barbara to have hoses on standby. Partying continued to the early hours. The local population clearly have more stamina and dance music could still be heard when the messmen were roused from their beds.
We wish you all a very happy new year and hope you will follow us on our voyage across the Atlantic.
