We had a very pleasant sail for most of yesterday afternoon. Earlier on we had sailed past the abandoned town of Plymouth - where it was all too easy to see the devastation caused by the lava outpourings of this still active volcano. This, our first experience this trip of some good winds, meant that a few people felt a little unwell for a period as our current floating home bagn to move about a little more than we had been accustomed to - luckily all recovered and gained their sealegs very quickly. The planned evacuation drill was posponed due to the slightly bumpy conditions and instead first mate Steve gave the crew a very informative talk on sail setting (occasionally interupted by crew receiving an impromptu bath from the spray over the side - which will help to keep us clean as we are running a little low on water) - now we have no excuse for getting the sails wrong!Late afternoon saw us handing sails as the wind was no longer in our favour, and motoring towards our anchorage for the evening. After a sumptuous feast of roast duck the anchor was dropped for the night to the accompanient of the cheers and horns of a football game in he nearby stadium. Either that, or they were very pleased to see us (but being French we suspect not). A relaxed evening an anchor watches followed by an early start this morning off the anchorage heading for Iles de Saintes. We completed our evacuation drill followed by the permanent crew's fire drill, set some sails and headed off for the next anchorage, and some more great sailing in paradise........
