Back to the ship update blog

05/08/12 - Tenacious

Dated: 07/08/2012

Hi again peeps! Had intended to write more yesterday but got called away. Always plenty to do on the Tall Ship Tenacious. Have a quick 5 minutes before I help in the galley so I’ll give you a quick update before we lose internet signal. We’re sailing away from St Malo, France and heading back towards Blighty with bags full of lovely French wine. Or is it just me?!
The voyage crew seem to be having a great time with lots of banter and even occasional singing. Fenders have become very popular as seats and space hoppers. We all enjoyed the lovely port of St Malo with its pretty beaches, streets, shops and nice bars and restaurants. A few of us went out on the Friday night and others on the Saturday. My night was Friday when I had a lovely meal with mate Richard, second mate Alex, BM Paulo and BM Jill. I had mussels, followed by steak in peppercorn sauce, and profiteroles to top it all off with some rather nice white wine with the starter and red with the main. Very civilised!
Then we relaxed in a small bar with a nice atmosphere before returning sleepy and happy to our bunks.
On Saturday morning I teased voyage crew member Marg because she had not put her name back on the IN side of the board (IN means you’re on board as opposed to OUT which is ashore) so there was a lot of banter of the, "so where were you last night" variety! However it turned out that she’d asked someone to do it and they’d forgotten! The watch leaders did a grand job of ensuring all our young-uns were safely aboard the ship at a reasonable time so well done to them.
We saw a double rainbow ashore in St Malo yesterday afternoon which was beautiful. Sadly my little photos don’t really do it justice….yes the weather has been up and down but we’ve all had a good time and are getting on well.
Oh and before I sign off and help Graham in the galley (lovely smells coming from there again by the way…yum!) I’d like to let the nation know that Bosun Glen caught 5 mackerel the other day over the side of the ship. What a clever boy! We had them with our lunch yesterday and they were fab.
Bye for now then, off to push through some linen then serve up some dinners. Also I’m being evicted from my cabin by Alex with a mop and bucket!
