06/04/12 - Tenacious
Dated: 06/04/2012
Day 3: We are now 129 miles away from Nassau and 700 miles away from Bermuda. Although we’ve been sailing for only 24 hours, it feels much longer – in a very good way. The voyage crew are getting to know one another and we’re settling into a comfortable companionship after the frenetic first night 'getting to know you’ conversations. It’s a little cooler today and, as I sit typing this on deck, some spots of rain have just hit the keyboard…
Notable news:
Those that wished to, got high and felt mighty yesterday as we climbed to sail-height and progressed out on the yards. The lucky few looking the right way also got to see a couple of dolphins frolicking. The unlucky majority who missed out are now keenly scanning the horizon hoping for more sightings – whales and turtles are, we are told, often seen around these parts.
Good Friday has been marked by some fabulous home-made hot-cross buns. New Voyage Crew members are delighted by the quality of the cooking. They are a little less delighted by the amount of washing-up, but, fortunately, mess-duty is shared.
This morning, sail-training was delivered by John (Mate). This was a very useful follow-up to the "TWO, SIX, HEAVE!" practical yesterday afternoon.
Mike and John are working hard on rubbing down and varnishing. Tenacious will (we hope) arrive in Southampton in very good nick.
