Back to the ship update blog

10/01/11 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 10/01/2011

Last day of maintenance so we thought we would sum it up. chipping, stripping, scrapping, painting, washing, window cleaning, metal brightening (including hanging over the side with a brush and a bucket), needle gunning, flag mending, chart corrections and tidying all to make Nelly ship shape and ready to rock and roll for the new vc joining tomorrow!

When the pc took our leads off and let us loose in Las Palmas we took the long walk that never stops from the smelly fish quay, (ed. Its really a ten min walk and I cant smell or see any fish what are these crazy volunteers on about? Over exposure to paint fumes?) into civilisation aka Las Palmas shop and of course the bars!!!

After many hours of stanchion chipping insanity took hold of one of the maintainers and she begin to sing to the tune of the Wurzels pheasant plucking song. "I am not a stanchion chipper I am a stanchion chippers mum and ill go on chipping stations till the stations chippings DONE!"

One of the guys picked a coverall that looked like a baby grow with was about 6 sizes too small with we all found very funny but to be fair it was the last one so he didn't have a lot of choice (ed. You lot didn't look very hard we have crates of the things!).

We will of course all miss Jon the 2/O who goes on leave today as well as the little people like Ratchet (C/E) and lots of the lovely maintainers some of whom have to depart us todayL
