Easter Monday: As we lay in bed this morning listening to the sounds of Port Horta and the smells of the yummy food coming from the galley we were suddenly startled by the sound of Robin’s piercing and resonate cries beckoning us to awake….not the best way to start a beautiful and eventful day!
However, this did not hinder what we have achieved today. Today was a very special day for everyone as it was time for the assisted climbs. It was like any good movie…there were tears of joy, peals of laughter and numerous rounds of applause, as 8 of our brave crew scaled the fore and main masts. After this a well earned smoko saw us eating Holy bread complete with a boiled egg inside received from our exotic taxi driver yesterday. The cold weather and chilling winds did not stop our cheery nature as we sang and danced our way through Happy Hour. I was lucky enough to scrub the decks for the 2nd time in a row so once finished I took to riding my broom like a horse around the deck as a victory lap to signal the end of Happy Hour.
Another scrumptious lunch, soup and burgers warmed up our spirits and we waved goodbye to Horta, setting sail to Angra do Heroismo. We are currently sailing at 2 knots down the Canal de S. Jorge also known to us as whale central….yet we are still waiting for them to grace us with their presence.
They tell me that it’s a nice, chilly spring day here in the Azores however I am dressed like an Eskimo because in Australia it doesn’t even get this cold in winter, crazy British!!
Signing out for now, Skippy (aka Sarah the Eskimo Aussie).
