Back to the ship update blog

10/05/2011 - Lord Nelson

Dated: 11/05/2011

Susan here with Roisin, Ciara and Amy. Sailing on the Lord Nelson. Just avoided being under attack by the Royal British Navy. We think that may be shelling practise from the firing ranges at Lulworth.. editor

Watch duties, tough hours. Niamh, Sinead and Erin were on last night from 10 till 12. Daire and Roisin on from 2 till 4 in the morning. Susan and Julia from 4 till 6. Amy had the longest watch hours, 8 till half twelve. All getting along great, mingling with people! Weather is fantastic, catching the sun rays. Nearly getting tanned!

Yesterday we all climbed up the ship to the mast. Roisin,Ashley, Susan and Julia proudly got as far to the first platform. Daire, Niamh, Ciara, Amy, Veronica, Sinead and Erin got to the first yard. Food is beautiful, nice surprise! We were anchored for the night, ship is rocking though. Some people got sea sick including Julia, Ashley and Veronica. We’re all good now though. Today we learned how to haul, sweat and tail the ropes. It is very hard work without gloves you would definitely get rope burn. We are halfways to France already (motoring of Portland ..ed ! ) and loving the weather.

Going for dinner now. Slan go foill : Susan, Ciara F, Roisin, Amy and Ciara L
